In this day and age, we all know how important it is for us females to stick together and praise each other’s successes instead of tearing each other down.
Now, I am fairly new to this whole fitness community thing, and fitness in general, only starting my fitness journey back in August 2017 and being on hiatus since October, however, I still feel beyond supported by my fellow GFG girls despite this.
So let’s take you back to August 2017, I had graduated from University the previous month and just started a part-time retail job to save some money for my upcoming trip to America. One day I was looking back at photos of me from my graduation and the graduation ball, now despite being overwhelmingly happy with my success, and spending time with some of my closest friends, I was quite unhappy with how I looked in these photos. Now I know this is natural, us girls scrutinise ourselves over and over, even though we are all so incredibly different, that’s what makes us beautiful! However, I personally did not like the way my body looked, I had put on a considerable amount of weight over my final year of Uni, and it was definitely showing. In turn, I began to compare my weight from my first year of Uni to these photos, and I definitely knew I had to do something about it, and it just so happened that the GFG guide came along just at the right time for me to make a change in my lifestyle.
For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about when I mention the GFG Guide, it is a weightlifting/cardio guide created by GraceFitUK, an outstanding woman in the fitness industry, and a wonderful Youtuber to boot (can you tell I’m a little bit of a fan?!). I was lost with where to even start with fitness, I used to play football (something which I am keen to get back into), but that and doing an hour of cardio at the gym after school used to be enough for me before I headed off to Uni. However, the new thing is becoming strong and lifting weights in order to build muscles, and I hate to be stereotypical, but I always stayed away from this because I didn’t want to be seen as too muscly (god forbid), but if anything, this guide has shown me that that will not be the case and that you can be extremely feminine and lift heavy weights at the same time. I mean just look at the likes of GMaleFit, MikFit, and all my fellow GFG girls, incredibly strong, and incredibly beautiful!!
So, August 2017 I started lifting weights, and I will never look back. I can’t express how motivating it is to see how much heavier you can lift week by week, it honestly makes me want to push myself even more everytime I’m in the gym. Now, don’t get me wrong, I was terrified to start lifting weights, my gym is pretty small, and I didn’t want to make a massive tit of myself, but after a few sessions I honestly didn’t even care anymore, once you see the tiniest bit of progress nothing will stop you. Even though I struggled those first few sessions with trying not to embarrass myself, if I was ever stressing out all I had to do was turn to my fellow GFG girls and they would sort me right out! I can’t tell you enough how amazing it was and still is to have these amazing females with me every step of the way on this journey, I honestly don’t think I would have gotten as far as I did without them. Starting the #gfgchallenge with them was one of the best decisions I have made, it’s such a blessing to have these confidants with you when you’re not feeling yourself, or doubting this whole process, we all lift each other up and I am totally here for that!! #GirlPower
Fast forward to 2018, I have not been to a gym since October (partly because I was travelling America for 2 months, still really no excuse), but I am more determined than ever to get back to it, and it’s mostly thanks to these girls! I have been looking into a new gym recently, as my old gym wasn’t really equipped for lifting heavy, but I am so excited to find that passion I had in the beginning and lift heavier and heavier with each day that passes.
So my GFG girls, this post is for you, just as a little thank you for everything you have done for me, and everything you are going to do for me and others in the future, and of course our Queen Grez!
